Meihao Medical Group Insiders Who Sold Avert HK$30m Market Cap Dip

Listen to the news

Over the past year, insiders sold CN¥15m worth of Meihao Medical Group Co., Ltd (HKG:1947) stock at an average price of CN¥0.27 per share allowing them to get the most out of their money. The company’s market cap plunged by HK$30m after price dropped by 13% last week but insiders were able to limit their loss to an extent.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Meihao Medical Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Co-Founder, Xiaomin Wang, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$15m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.27 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (HK$0.34). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 14% of Xiaomin Wang's stake. Xiaomin Wang was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Meihao Medical Group insiders own 62% of the company, currently worth about HK$127m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
